Rock Island Kiwanis College Scholarship

For nearly 100 years, the Kiwanis Club of Rock Island has been serving children. One such way is through our Kiwanis Club of Rock Island Scholarship program, where traditionally $3,000 in NON-RENEWABLE College Scholarship funds have been awarded annually to students committed to furthering their education by attending an accredited college or vocational training institution of higher learning.

Scholarships are awarded on the final Monday in April of each year. Scholarship applications are due no later than last day of February of each year.

Rock Island Kiwanis Grants

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR KIWANIS GRANT REQUESTS

PRIORITIES and VALUES

1. Is there a perceived need for the Funds requested?
2. What is the impact on the public, the project itself and to the Club if this request is Funded?
3. Projects serving Rock Island residents will have priority over other funding requests.
4. Priorities for funding are:

  • Children & Youth
  • Literacy
  • Economically Challenged
  • Serving Developmentally Disabled
  • Health & Wellness

PRACTICES

1.   Grant Requests must be received on the Board approved Kiwanis Application Form, complete and no later than the last day of February of each year or the last day of September. Grants are awarded at both the Spring Scholarship/Grant Awards Meeting on the final Monday in April and at our Autumn Grant Awards Meeting on the final Monday in November.

2.   The Board of Directors will act on Grant Requests semi-annually, in March for the Club’s April semi-annual awards presentation, and in October for the Club’s November semi-annual awards presentation.

3.   If this project was funded previously through a Kiwanis Grant, the Club must receive a progress report from the requestor prior to consideration.

4.   Tabled Requests will be considered first.

5.   The Grants Committee will make recommendations to the Board based upon Board adopted priorities and values.

6.   The upper limit for a Grant Request will be determined by the Board of Directors. The average Grant Request is $500.00 to $1,000.00.

7.   One Grant Request will be accepted for each project in each fiscal year (October 1st through September 30th).

8.   Repetition or approval of previous projects should not outweigh approval of new projects.
